ShoEi Foods grower
support program
At ShoEi Foods USA, we regard our carefully selected growers as partners in our enterprise. Accordingly, we are intent on doing all we can to ensure the viability of our growers’ operations. Our success depends upon the success of our growers. Consequently, we have procedures to avoid a “waiting game” with either grading determination or payment to growers — and we take pride in paying growers earlier than most other walnut processors. Through strategic management of our valued walnut supply and global portfolio of customers, we optimize our marketing efforts to maximize returns to our growers.
We issue a grade report to growers upon their delivery of raw product at our facility. An independent, third-party contractor performs a detailed quality analysis, determines grade, and generates an inshell and shelled quality report that we share with the grower within 24 to 48 hours of each delivery. A formula applied to that assessment of quality and grade determines the appropriate payment.
Unlike many other large processors, ShoEi intentionally does not commingle shipments in bulk storage. That’s an essential function in our multi-faceted quality control program. All products received from our growers are individually held in bin storage, with barcoded identifying information from the huller’s manifest. That method enables each bin of walnuts in the ShoEi facility to be traceable back to the grower. That deliberate inventory method enables us to maintain consistency and align product quality of grower shipments with the needs of individual customers.
ShoEi Foods USA is a fully owned subsidiary of billion-dollar Japan-based company with a strong balance sheet that guarantees on time payments to growers. We finalize our payments to our growers months earlier than most California walnut processors, which is another benefit of partnering with ShoEi.
